Storyline
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
A Turtles Tournament
As far as giant anthropomorphic rats go, this one is one bad dude. After the murder of his Master, Splinter was forced to roam the sewers of New York City where he found and later trained the Turtles to be ninja warriors. Despite his soft-spoken manner, Master Splinter still has the power to lay a smack down when necessary.

A Whole New Shell Game
Mutated by the same Ooze that changed the Turtles, the rat known as Splinter was previously the pet of Hamato Yoshi. Upon Yoshi's death at the hands of The Shredder, Splinter scurried off to the sewer. After his mutation, he began teaching the Turtles the ninjutsu he had picked up from watching Yoshi. In effect, he was the teacher and father figure to the Turtles.
TMNT: Mutant Melee
Mutant Melee Endings
Attaining a goal ends a chapter in one's life, but also starts a new one. Master Yoshi's soul and master Splinter may finally rest. All those years of training and dedication have paid off in the only way they could: victory over the greatest foe. Now, Splinter faces an even more daunting task: surviving the rest of the Turtles' teenage years.

Fun Facts
Shared Origin
Part of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' origin story - with the young boy pushing a blind man out of the way of a speeding truck full of radioactive goop - mirrors that of Daredevil's. This, and the addition of their master Splinter's name being a parody of Daredevil's master Stick - culminate to an obvious parody of the Marvel title. However, TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman has revealed via interviews that in his mind, the two events were one in the same, meaning that the boy that saved the blind man in TMNT was a young Matt Murdock. Of course, this makes little sense considering the fact that TMNT has such a rigid canon timeline, and Marvel's works on a sliding scale, but there you have it.
