You may be inclined to call Donatello a nerd, and in doing so you may also be inclined to take a bo staff to the face. Without a doubt, Donatello is the most intellectual of the Turtles and has a knack for science, technology, and swinging a wicked bo staff.

A Whole New Shell Game
Donatello is one of the four pet turtles anthropomorphized by the Utroms' radioactive "Ooze". Wielder of the bo and fond of the color purple, Donatello is the inventive "brainiac" of the team. He creates all of the high-tech tools and vehicles that his brothers use in their day-to-day lives, whether at rest or fighting crime. Donatello is also a pacifist, and will only fight if the situation truly warrants combat.
Heroes in a Half Shell
One of four pet Turtles that were mutated by Shredder's Retromutagen Ooze, Donatello is master of the oak staff, or bo. The smartest of his brothers, Donatello invents almost all of the gadgets the Turtles use to fight crime, as well as leisure items such as the TurtleVision. Sometimes, however, Don's eagerness gets the best of him, and he miscalculates, causing the invention to malfunction. Preferring to reason rather than fight, Donatello nevertheless is a skilled ninja who can still throw down with the best of them.

Fun Facts
Shared Origin
Part of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' origin story - with the young boy pushing a blind man out of the way of a speeding truck full of radioactive goop - mirrors that of Daredevil's. This, and the addition of their master Splinter's name being a parody of Daredevil's master Stick - culminate to an obvious parody of the Marvel title. However, TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman has revealed via interviews that in his mind, the two events were one in the same, meaning that the boy that saved the blind man in TMNT was a young Matt Murdock. Of course, this makes little sense considering the fact that TMNT has such a rigid canon timeline, and Marvel's works on a sliding scale, but there you have it.
