2D Gameplay (2D Gameplay)
Air Dash (Air Dash)
With the exception of Iron Tager, all characters can perform a dash while in the air. Most characters can do one dash will mid-air. Arakune, Taokaka, and Bang can do a double air dash.
Astral Heat (Fatal Moves)
Only accessible with 100% Heat during the final round on opponent's with little health, these attacks provide an (often extraordinarily) dramatic finish to the bout.
Distortion Drives (Super Moves)
At the cost of 50% Heat Gauge (exception is Haku-men who uses magatama system) to use Distortion Drive, a move that surpasses the strength of normal and special moves.
Heat Meter (Super Meter)
Naturally gained by landing and taking attacks, Heat begins to increase on its own once your life grows critical.
Unlockable Moves (Unlockable Moves)
In the console ports, completing Arcade mode unlocks (most of) the characters "Astral Heat" attacks.

Bang tosses an umbrella over his opponent. The umbrella opens up and drops nails over the opponent. Consumes all of Bang's remaining nails. The more nails Bang has before performing this move, the longer it lasts. Can be performed without any nails in stock.

SS Forbidden Technique: Fu-Rin-Ka-Zan

Glowing with a yellow aura, Bang loses his ability to use normal blocks in exchange for incredible speed. Once activated, this state will last for the duration of the round.

Fubuki / Blizzard
Jin quickly draws his sword from his sheath and swings his sword at a 45 degree angle.

Hirensou / Dual Ice Strike/Dual Ice Sickle
This move consumes 25% Heat. As Jin gets ready to draw his sword, a circular flash freezes his nearby opponent. This followed up by slash that knocks his opponent away. Holding down D delays the slash attack and becomes unblockable when fully charged.

This move consumes 25% Heat. The ground version fires a giant ice sword that freezes on hit. The mid-air version fires three ice swords at once.

Hishouken / Ice Blade/Flying Ice Sword
Jin fires an ice sword. All ground versions fly straight forward; the button determines the speed of the projectile. The mid-air version flys at different angles, depending on the button pressed.

Musou Senshouzan / Crystal Strike /Mist Spear Piercing Crystal Slash/ "Ice Car"
Jin rides and on icicle that flys forward towards his opponent. Jin will also follow up with a slash for his B and C versions.

Musou Tosshougeki / Freezing Crystal Strike / Mist Spear Thrusting Crystal Attack
Consumes 25% Heat. This is a variation Musou Senshouza where first hit freezes his opponent and he follows up with a outward slash.

Rehhyou / Violent Ice
With a quick draw of the sword, Jin swings his sword upward at 90 degrees. Cannot be air-blocked.

Sekkajin / Snow Flower Storm
Jin rapidly slashes in several directions.

Jin shoots an ice arrow at 35% angle, which will freeze on hit.

Touga Hyoujin / Ice Fang
With a slash of his sword, Jin sends a wave of ice towards his opponent. The speed and size of the projectile allows it the cover the whole screen in a short amount of time.

Rachel summons a frog that will follow the opponent and attack with an electric jolt.

Impish Gypsophila
Rachel summons a floating pumpkin. It does not attack on its own, but is activated by Rachel's Silpheed drive, moving in the direction of the wind.

Sword Iris
Rachel sets off all lightning rods, electricfying anyone in proximity of the rods.

Tiny Lobelia
Rachel fires a projectile that forms a lightning rod when it hits the ground. Up to three lightning rods can be set up at one time. Trajectory depends on button used. It can also be performed in mid-air.

Baden-Baden Lily
Rachel rises in the air, conjuring lighting around her and sets off lightning rods that have been planted.
Fatal Moves

Clownish Calendula
A red beam appears around Rachel. If the comes in contact with her opponent, they are drawn upward, away from the screen. The screen momentarily turns dark as a huge cross raises from the ground. Her unseen opponent is struck by a bolt of lightning.
Ragna the Bloodedge
Basic Moves

Soul Eater
Ragna drains the life of his opponents on block or hit. This makes up for his relatively low health. Soul Eater attacks become even more powerful once Blood Kain is activated.
Special Moves

Dead Spike
Ragna releases dark energy from the ground in the shape of the Black Beast's head. Life is drained on hit or block. Hitbox increases during Blood Kain.

Ragna dashes forward with punch

Ragna leaps in the air, performing an uppercut-like swing with his sword. D version launches him higher and drains life on hit or block.

Blood Kain
Ragna emits a black aura around his body. In this state Ragna's health will deplete over time, but his enhanced drive attacks more than make up for it. His Soul Eater attacks have a larger hitbox, inflict greater damage, drain more health.

Carnage Scissors
Ragna dashes in with a sword strike and then releases dark energy from his sword.

Devoured by Darkness

While in Blood Kain state, Ragna's hand become clawed and monstrous in size as he grabs his opponent. His opponents life is sapped away by dark tendrils. Blood Kain ends after this move is performed. A successful attack will also regain a considerable amount of Ragna's health.

Black Onslaught
Ragna's sword transforms into a giant scythe, slashing his opponent until he/she disintegrates with the final blow.

Cat Jump!
Taokaka does forward leap. The arc of the jump covers more ground horizontally than a regular jump.

Cat Spirit One!
Taokaka moves her arms in a rapid scissor-like motion with claws extended.

Cat Spirit Three!
qcf+cbtn (repeatable)
Taokaka performs a big windup before performing an alternate sequence of heavy downward and upward slashes. Continuious tapping of the C button can perform this move indefinitely. The first attack has overhead property, and must be blocked high.

Cat Spirit Two!
(in air)qcf+bbtn(repeatable)
While jumping, Taokaka repeatedly slashes with her claws in downward motion. Can be repeated by tapping B button as long she is in mid-air.

Kitty Litter Special!
Taokaka throws random junk at her opponents. The button determines the trajectory and kind of things she will throw at her opponent. A version moves in an arc; she will throw either an apple core, pillow (can hit twice), or a bomb (knocks down and hits twice). B version flies in a straight across the screen; projectiles include fish bone, baseball, or a puppet. On rare occasions, she may throw a Kaka kitten with A or B version. With the C version, Taokaka throws a bowling ball in a short arc and rolls slowly across the ground.

Taokaka rears up on all fours and odd-shaped nails spring vertically from her paws.

Sticky Kitty!

Taokaka clings to side of the screen. Must be in mid-air at the edge of the screen.

Almost Becoming Two!
Taokaka does quick dance and gains a doppleganger. Damage is halved but has high fixed proration and little delay between in attacks.

Cat Person's Secret Art: Hexa-Edge
Taokaka rushes at her opponent with a barrage of slashes.

I'mma beat the crap outta you!
Taokaka pounces on her opponent. If landed successfully, she will extend her claws, thrash her opponent, and launch him/her in the air with a kick. It is considered a throw and cannot be blocked, but can be avoided by crouching.

Taokaka knocks her opponent like a pinball machine before being finished off by Jubei.

In mid-air, a blade moves in a quarter-circle arc over her head. Pressing C before blade comes up cancels the move.

Gravity Shield
Nu creates a gravity field, slowing down any foe that stands on it. Button input determines the location of gravity field.

Sickle Storm
Nu sends spinning scythe along the ground. Tapping C before scythe comes out reverses direction and starting location of scythe. Attack hits low.

Spike Chaser
V-13 sends waves of swords traveling along the ground. Tapping C button will charge the attack, giving it extra range.

Prologue / A.D. 2199 Dec
In a time now long past, mankind faced extinction at the hands of the "Black Beast", a creature that appeared out of the darkness. The Beast was possessed by an awesome power, and it appeared that the time of man would soon be at an end. It was then, in humanity's darkest hour, that six heroes of unknown origin came forward to defeat the Beast. They brought with them the ancient power of "magic", which they freely shared with mankind. Turning their ingenuity to the formation of new, more powerful weapons, humanity discovered a process by which they could infuse their own technology with the power of ancient magic. It was in this way that humanity created the "Armagus" and discovered a power far beyond what magic or technology alone could have given them.

With this newfound power, mankind once again confronted the Beast, with the six heroes fighting alongside them. After many long, blood-soaked battles, the Beast finally fell, ending what would come to be known as the "First War of Magic". The heroes who fought beside human warriors in the First War of Magic were immortalized for their deeds and, through generations, came to be known as the "Six Heroes".

An organization was formed during the First War to regulate the use of the "Grimoire Armagus", the Armagus training texts. This "Novus Orbis Librarium", and the power it wielded with the Grimoire Armagus, brought about great advances across the the spectrum of human technology. These gains threw mankind into a vast and all-encompassing reconstruction.

Decades have passed since the Librarium established itself as a dictatorship, and Armagus became the deciding factor in nearly all of humanity's affairs. This has led to a large socioeconomic gap between those who can wield the power of Armagus and those who cannot. Tensions began to flare, and before long a rebel organization calling itself the "Ikaruga Federation" appeared, defying the totalitarian authority of the Librarium. With the creation of the Federation, angry thoughts became open hostilities, and the "Second War of Magic" began. It was this conflict, which also came to be known as the "Ikaruga Civil War", that saw human using the power of Armagus against one another for the first time.

The Second War came to a close with the destruction of the Ikaruga Federation. Afraid of further conflict, the Librarium consummated its subjugation of the populace by issuing the following decree: "Whosoever chooses to defy the Novus Orbis Librarium shall be put to death, without exception."

Several years after the end of the Second War, a branch of the Libraruim, reputed to command a force as powerful as an entire nation's army, was suddenly and utterly destroyed. The few survivors spoke in hushed, shaken tones of a single man who had appeared out of nowhere, cutting down all in his path.

His name was "Ragna the Bloodedge"...

By the end of the year, most citizens were expecting the beginning of an era of unprecedented development. Unfortunately, 2199 was also the year that the Librarium's greatest foe, the man with the highest single bounty on record, Ragna the Bloodedge, was rumored to have appeared in the 13th Hierarchical City of Kagutuschi. People gave him the nickname Grim Reaper, and it was said that his goal was the obliteration of the librarium in its entirety. Following the rumors, people began to make their way to Kagutsuchi-some after the incredible bounty on his head, others after the "ultimate power" said to be in his possession...and a few whose only interest was his assassination for the Librarium.
