Fighting Style(s)
As a ninja, Scorpion is knowledgeable in ninjutsu, the banner term used for the various fighting and espionage techniques used by ninja.

In various games, Scorpion is given the fighting styles of Hapkido, Pi Gua, Moi Fah. However, these barely resemble their real-life counterparts and are merely based off of the styles' stances and general movement.

As a hellborne spectre, Scorpion has many fire and hell-based moves at his disposal.
Weapon(s)
Scorpion's most well-known weapon is what is commonly referred to as his "spear" or "harpoon". Technically, it has never been either of these weapons, but they are generally considered to be a blanket term to refer to the weapon. In most games, it appears as a kunai attached to a rope, but some incarnations depict it as a chain instead of a rope.

In Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Trilogy, Scorpion utilized a battle axe for close-quarter combat.

Mortal Kombat 4/Gold introduced a generic broadsword for Scorpion as a weapon, which evolved into a ninjatou in later games. The ninjatou is a Japanese straight sword traditionally thought to have been used by ninja, although evidence of them even existing prior to World War II is tenuous. Nevertheless it is common to see the ninjatou as a ninja weapon in countless forms of media across the globe. Mortal Kombat Deception and Armageddon had the "Mugai Ryu" weapon style, but this is in reference to a specific style of iaido and not a weapon in and of itself. As Mugai Ryu is an art of quick-drawing of the blade and built around a self-defense philosophy as opposed to offensively, it is very poorly depicted in the games.

Kombat Rebooted
Hanzo Hasashi was once a member of the Japanese Shirai Ryu ninja clan. Given the name Scorpion for his blindingly fast and deadly fighting skill, his life was blessed with glorious kombat in the name of his Grand Master. But when he, his family and his clan were brutally exterminated by Sub-Zero and the Lin Kuei, Scorpion's existence became eternal torment. Resurrected by the malevolent necromancer Quan Chi, he entered the Mortal Kombat tournament to slay Sub-Zero and avenge the murders of his kin.
Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub Zero
Scorpion was also tasked by Quan Chi to recover the elder god's map, but Sub Zero beat him to it and defeated him in Mortal Kombat. Later, as Sub Zero passed through the Netherealm, Scorpion challenged him again, believing the Lin Kuei to be the murder of his clan and family. Scorpion was again defeated, but he swore revenge.
Kombat Begins
Like Sub-Zero, Scorpion's true name and origin are not known he has shown from time to time distrust and hatred towards Sub-Zero. Between ninjas, this is usually a sign of opposing clans.

Kombat Kontinues

A New Dimension of Kombat
In hopes of gaining Scorpion as a new ally in the war with the elder gods, Quan Chi makes the dead ninja an offer he cannot refuse- life, in exchange for his services as a warrior against the elders. Scorpion accepts, but hides under ulterior motives.
MK Trilogy Endings
Scorpion is inadvertently released from his damnation in Hell when Kahn's plan to overtake that realm goes awry. Free to roam Earth, Scorpion is enlisted by the emperor to aid him in his quest to destroy the chosen warriors. But, his allegiance to Shao Kahn falters when he discovers one of the chosen warriors to be Sub-Zero. Scorpion vowed to protect the former ninja as restitution for killing his brother. Shao Kahn finds himself the victim of his own scheme as Scorpion is forced to turn against him. He destroys the emperor and the Earth is returned to normal. Scorpion finds himself once again roaming the pits of Hell, only to one day rise again.
Deadly Alliance
The ninja spectre Scorpion had assumed for many years that Sub-Zero had killed his family and clan, only to later discover that the true murderer was the sorcerer Quan Chi. After revealing his treachery, Quan Chi then attempted to send Scorpion to the 5th plane of the Netherealm. Thinking quickly, Scorpion grabbed the sorcerer at the last moment and they were both transported to that forbidden realm. This turn of events boded well for Scorpion as his strength increased the longer he remained there. Quan Chi's powers, however, proved to be useless against him.
Scorpion hunted Quan Chi relentlessly throughout the Netherealm, thrashing him every chance he could. Eventually, Quan Chi enlisted the help of two Oni to protect him from the onslaught. When Quan Chi finally discovered a way out of the Netherealm through a strange portal, Scorpion rushed to follow him. He emerged in Outworld, but in a different location, far from his prey. He can still sense Quan Chi's presence and will hunt him wherever he runs to. There is nowhere the sorcerer can hide.
Return of the Dragon King
"In my haste to confront my nemesis, Quan Chi, I was ambushed by two oni and cast into a powerful soulnado. I would surely have been torn apart by the souls trapped there had I not managed to escape into the Void. It was there that I first set eyes on the fabled Elder Gods. I would be forever changed by this encounter.

While in the Void, I witnessed, along with the Elder Gods, the death of Raiden and the re-emergence of the Dragon King. Suddenly aware of my presence, the Elder Gods transformed me into their servant and gave me a new purpose: to prevent the Dragon King from merging the realms." -Scorpion
MK Armageddon Endings
As the fire of Blaze was extinguished, what appeared in its place brought elation to Scorpion's tormented soul. His ninja clan, the Shirai Ryu, had been fully resurrected. Numbering in the thousands, they covered the surface of the pyramid awaiting Scorpion's command.

Among them were Scorpion's wife and son. Their reunion was to be short-lived. The sorcerer Quan Chi suddenly appeared among them. He grabbed Scorpion's young son and disappeared through a portal to the Netherrealm.

Enraged, Scorpion ordered his clan to hunt down the sorcerer. He will not rest until his son has been recovered and Quan Chi is dead!
Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe
Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe Endings
Though Dark Kahn was defeated, his consciousness lived on. The Dark Lord's power and maliciousness found the perfect host in the body of the wrathful Scorpion.

In the midst of his agony, Scorpion knew that he would soon be the most powerful creature in the universe - if he survived the transformation.
Worlds Collide
Scorpion was once a member of the Shirai Ryu clan before he was slain by the elder Sub-Zero. Resurrected by the sorcerer Quan Chi, he entered the Mortal Kombat tournament and killed Sub-Zero to avenge the murders of his family and clan. But Sub-Zero's younger brother assumed his name and donned the familiar blue assassin's garb. Though he remains Quan Chi's enforcer, Scorpion will not rest until this Sub-Zero has been slain as well.

Fun Facts
Cage Conspiracy
After Mortal Kombat 2, Daniel Pesina (who played Johnny Cage and the male ninjas) used his Johnny Cage likeness to endorse some non-MK products including sports supplements, workout videos, and even Bloodstorm, another particularly violent fighting game. The subsequent controversy and falling out was supposedly a factor in both Johnny Cage (and the ninjas) absence in Mortal Kombat 3.
Elder God's Champion. . .not
Monster was originally an alternate outfit design for Scorpion while he was working the "Elder God's Champion" angle, bright white armor was ultimately decided just too far a departure from the character's trademark yellow ninja garb and shoehorned into a separate character entirely. Monster still shares all Scorpion's moves, mannerisms, and even the same plot function in Shujinko's Konquest mode.
Mr. Potty Mouth
In Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, whenever Scorpion performs his Spear move, he will occasionally say "Get over here, bitch!" or "Get the fuck over here!"
Fatality imitates art
Scorpion's look (and possibly inclusion) in Injustice was inspired by comic book legend Jim Lee.
The Shirai Ryu Clan
A clan of ninja founded by the rogue Lin Kuei, Takeda. His newfound clan mocked the Lin Kuei with bright yellow variants of their signature garb, and the two clans became bitter rivals. The Shirai Ryu clan was utterly wiped out at Quan Chi's hands, as thanks for the elder Sub Zero's work in retrieving the amulet. Scorpion is believed to be their last.
