Wears an otherwise unspecified pair of sandals (not counting geta).

Attire is skimpy at best, leaving very little to the imagination or otherwise letting it all hang out.
scarf
Wears a prominent scarf or muffler.
scarred
Has significant physical scarring.
school_worker
A character who works at a school, such as a teacher, principal, professor, janitor, etc.
schoolkid
Some variant of traditionally uniformed japanese school girl/boy.
science_fiction

scientist
Skilled in certain fields of science usually Robotics or Genetics or Chemicals. (Are also often "Mad" Scientists as well.)
scimitar
Wields a scimitar or a similar single-edged curved sword.
scissors
Fights using a pair of scissors or shears, which are often oversized.
scottish
Hails from Scotland.
scythe
Wields a scythe in battle.
sd/kids
Consists of young, or super-deformed versions of existing characters.
senior
Very old, senior citizen.
senseicide
A character who has killed their master or sensei.
serpentine
Has some affiliation with serpents (excluding Yamatano Orochi), or is a serpent him/herself.
sewer
The stage takes place in a sewer.
shadow_control
The ability to melt into shadow, summon creatures from shadow, or otherwise control the darkness.
shelled
Wears a (usually natural) shell on his or her body.
shield
Carries a shield.
shock_control
Control over electricty, the ability to create lightning or sparks.
shocking
The move causes an electrical effect, possibly displaying the victim's skeleton.
short_skirt
Lower body attire consists of a short skirt, often in the Japanese schoolgirl style. Expect panty shots.
short_staff
Wields a baton or other short staff.
shortrange_projectile
An attack that has projectile properties but doesn't go much farther than a standard attack.
sibling
This character has a brother or a sister. Or both.
single_style
All characters in this game use the same fighting style, or some derivative thereof.
singlet
Wears a single-strap singlet common with barbaric peoples, or a skintight single/double-strap singlet worn by wrestlers.
skates
Wears skates or rollerblades.
skintight
Wearing some form of one piece full body covering.
skull_head
The character has a skull for a head, or his head look like a skull. In all cases, the rest of the body is relatively normal, so the character is not an animated skeleton.
skulls
Arena contain skulls or artistic depiction of skulls (such as painting or sculpture).
skulls
Wears an outfit adorned by skulls, or at the very least, pictures of skulls (including the Jolly Roger). Not reflective of characters who are undead skeletons or simply have exposed skulls.

smoker
Often seen puffing on a cigarette, pipe, or cigar.
snake_style
Uses the fighting style of Snake Kung Fu or She Quan.

The ability to manipulate sound via sonic screams or another means.
spanish
Born in, or a citizen of, Spain.
special_ender
A move (often an auto-combo super) that ends with the character performing one of their standard special attacks.
special_medley
A super move that consists of multiple different special moves, one after another. Sometimes these moves are more powerful or the character is followed by a shadow trail when performing them.
speedster
A character that is noted for having superhuman speed, which often is reflected in his or her fighting style.
spiked
Body or clothing is heavily covered in spikes.
spikes
This arena features sharp, pointy projections.
spinning
Forces excessive y-axis rotation on the victim.
spit_moves
Known to attack with projectile spit or vomit, or some sort of other expulsion from the mouth (breath, fireballs, lasers, etc.)
sports
Fights using techniques based on any recreational sport.
sports_visor
A crownless hat consisting simply of a visor or brim with a strap encircling the head for use in sunny outdoor sports.
squared_circle
Battle takes place inside (or immediately next to) the four corners of a boxing/wrestling ring.
stance_change
Is able to change fighting styles or ready stances at via button push, button combination, or match condition, whereas a majority of his or her contemporaries are not.
stances
All (or most) characters can switch stances or fighting styles mid-battle.
stars
Typically wears clothing with star-shapes printed on them.
startup
Move has a significant wind-up before the actual attack occurs.
statues
Three-dimensional figures of any material are on display here.
steal_moves
Able to steal their opponent's attacks and use them in turn.
stealth
Induces invisibility or a similarly cloaked state.
stick_figure
Whether because of testing purposes, artist laziness, or vestige of the early days of gaming, this character is depicted in the easiest shorthand of drawing the human form.
stitched
Has stitches somewhere on their body, usually on wounds.
stocking_cap
A knit cap, either close to the head or long in a santa/elf style.
stone_being
Appears to be made of rock or stone.
stone_throw
Throws stones, rocks, and/or boulders as part of his or her move set, but does not have manipulation over the earth itself.
storm
Inclement weather is occurring, characterized by rain or periodic flashes of lightning.
straitjacket
Often seen wearing a straitjacket.
straw_hat
Wears an Asian-style straw hat.
street_fight
A literal street fight in an urban setting.
stretching
Able to attack with one's own limbs from a greater distance than normal, either by means actually stretching or telescoping by cybernetic parts.
striker
Summons a character from off-screen for a quick attack.
strikers
A character with built-in support in the form of other sub-characters summoned from offscreen.
string_tie
Wears a thin, stringy tie, often in a manner similar to a bow tie or bolo.
striped
Wears stripes on his/her outfit.
stripping
Known for having their clothes torn off and/or willingly removed, often played for fanservice.
stun
Leaves the opponent disabled momentarily
suicidal
A move that damages the character using it as well as the opponent.
summon
Summons a character that is playable/semi-playable for a brief period of time in place or addition to the character that used this move.
sumo
Uses the martial art of sumo wrestling.
sunglasses
Wears sunglasses.
super_armor
This move's properties include a "super armor" state, that is, the character can receive damage without being interrupted by hitstun.
super_projectile
A super move projectile which is a larger and more powerful version of the character's standard projectile.
superhero
Four-color comic heroes.
supersize
Characters who fill the entire screen, a special weight class usually reserved for unplayable bosses.
suspenders
Wears straps used to hold up the pants.
swallowing
Is able to swallow the opponent as a special move, usually spitting them out later.
swedish
Born in, or a citizen of, Sweden.
swelling
Able to expand the size of their body, fists, feet or head (!) during attacks.
swiss
Born in, or a citizen of, Switzerland.
