Gameplay
Captain Falcon
Special Moves

Falcon Punch
bbtn
With a marvelously enunciated Engrish shout of "FAL-CONE PAUNCH!", Captain Falcon delivers a massively powerful punch, with a fiery falcon engulfing his fist.
Kirby

Final Cutter
up+bbtn(air)
Kirby leaps upward with a scimitar, then comes back down to strike the ground with it, creating a shockwave that moves in the direction he's facing.

Inhale
bbtn
Kirby opens his mouth wide and sucks in air. If a foe is close enough, he will inhale the enemy right into his mouth. Pressing @term=bbtn@ again will spit the opponent out; pressing @term=down@ will make Kirby swallow the opponent, which although releases them from his mouth, will also change his appearance to display traits from said enemy; he will also gain the ability to use their @term=bbtn@ move in place of Inhale. Taunting will expel the opponent's moves and allow Kirby to inhale again.

Stone
down+bbtn(air)
Kirby turns into a stone block, leaving him imprevious to damage for a short time. Using it in the air causes Kirby to drop straight down quickly, causing damage to underlying foes. In Melee and Brawl, he can turn into additional shapes, including a spiked ball, 100-ton weight, Thwomp (from Super Mario Bros.), or a garbage block from Panel de Pon. In Brawl, performing it on the ground pushes immediate nearby foes away a bit.
Link

Bomb
down+bbtn
Pull bombs out and press the @term=abtn@ to hurl them at enemies. If Link drops it, other characters can pick it up.

Boomerang
bbtn(air)
Tap the analog stick for longer range and tilt up or down to aim it.
Mario

Fireball
bbtn(air)
Shoot bouncing balls of fire horizontally, which bounce along the ground and obstacles. They vanish as they slow.

Mario Tornado
down+bbtn(air)
Engulf opponents in a high-speed spin. Tap B while attacking to float up.

Super Jump Punch
up+bbtn(air)
Attack opponents while jumping or leap to get back to the stage. Coins erupt from the attack upon contact.
Samus

Bomb
down+bbtn(air)
Samus transforms into her "Morph Ball" and drops a mine. Explosions from this mine can send her upward slightly.

Charge Shot
(hold)bbtn(air)
Fires off a tiny blast, or if sufficiently charged, a larger blast. The charge can be held onto, and then discharged later by hitting @term=bbtn@ again.

Screw Attack
up+bbtn(air)
Samus curls into a ball and initiates a spinning jump.

Storyline
Nintendo All-Star!
Nintendo's most well-known mascots gather together for a fight of epic proportions.

Fun Facts
Super Smash Beta
Masahiro Sakurai was working on a prototype for a four-player fighting game called Kakuto-Gemu Ryuoh (格闘ゲーム竜王, Fighting Game Dragon King) for Nintendo 64. Nintendo brass saw the project (which used at the time, generic, nondescript character models and a photo of the Japanese skyline as a background) and suggested adding Nintendo characters for enhanced appeal. That project later became Super Smash Bros.
