Right Hand of the King
Billy Kane is a dedicated loyalist to Geese Howard and is second-in-command in the Howard Connection. He fights with an extending staff that has an impressive reach to keep his opponents at bay. Billy is known also as the ‘walking deadly weapon’ due to his hot-blooded personality.

King of Fighters '95
A solitary figure saunters through the darkness. This is Eiji Kisaragi, and after he takes a few more steps onward, out of nowhere pounces Billy Kane.
The two square off against each other, and just when it appears that they are about to knock each other out, Kisaragi brings his fist to a stop before Billy's forehead.
BILLY: "...Why, didn't you hit me?"
KISARAGI: "Because you refrained from smashing my Adam's apple with your cudgel."
Billy's cudgel rests right in front of Kisaragi's throat. The two slowly separate.
KISARAGI: "Phew. So you, I presume, must be Billy Kane. What business do you have with me?"
BILLY: "Whew. Hold on a second, there's one other person I'd like you to meet...!"
And as if on cue, a pale blue flame shoots between the two.
KISARAGI: "What the...! What manner of being is this!"
A figure slowly emerges from the darkness, dragging the apparently lifeless form of a man whose blood-streaked head he grasps in his hand.
YAGAMI: "Heh, heh, heh...What fools these mortals be.... I don't know what this clown thought he was doing, but he apparently believed he could handle me...."
Having said his piece, Yagami tosses the man in his grip at Billy's feet.
The man Yagami has just rendered useless, in fact, is one of Geese's most trusted assassins.
YAGAMI: "Calling me to this place really took some stones, and this was some salutation.... So, which of you is going to be the first to die?"
BILLY: "Hmph. You conceited crud. I give you a sardine to catch and you treat it like a marlin...You watch yourself, junior!"
Billy readies his three-jointed cudgel, but overpowered by some unearthly force, he finds himself unable to move.
BILLY: "W-what the...?"
Billy feels as though he sees a strange presence behind the slowly approaching Yagami.
BILLY: "S-stopping me dead in my tracks...just who are you...?!"
YAGAMI: "Me? Why I'm..."
Yagami summons up flames in the palm of his hand.
YAGAMI: "I am...Iori...Yagami."
KISARAGI: "Did you say...Yagami?!"
BILLY: "Yagami...! Could it be? ...This punk?!"
YAGAMI: "...Die!"
BILLY: "Wait!"
Billy's plea breaks the tense mood.
BILLY: "That's the stuff! You two are more than I'd hoped for!"
KISARAGI: "What? What's going on here?!"
Billy whips out an invitation to this year's King of Fighters.
BILLY: "Take a gander at this!"
YAGAMI: "...An invitation to King of Fighters. So what...?"
BILLY: "Naturally, we're going to enter. We're going to be a team! How about it?! You two have got nothing to lose, right...?"
YAGAMI: "...The King of Fighters, eh...? Of course Kyo Kusanagi will be there.... Hmm.... Sounds interesting. It may be just the opportunity to crush that little bug...."
KISARAGI: "Hmm, indeed. A perfect chance to set things straight with those Kyokugen clowns, too...."
BILLY: "OK. Well, there you have it...!"
YAGAMI: "Very well. But I've just got this to say: Don't you dare look on me as an ally. You're nothing but means to an end; that's all you are and nothing more to me."
KISARAGI: "Indubitably. My sentiments exactly! Until we meet at KOF, farewell!"
The two take their leave.
BILLY: "Wah, ha, ha, Geese. All the pawns have been put into place. Hah, hah, hah!"
King of Fighters '96
Mittelgebilde, Germany. A man of noble bearing sits in front of a massive pipe organ and proceeds to stroke the keyboard. A man who appears to be his servant approaches him.
SERVANT: "Herr Krauser..."
KRAUSER: "..."
Krauser, plays with the keys as he is presented with an envelope.
SERVANT: "Once again you have received this correspondence."
KRAUSER: "The King of Fighters, is it...? Rugal, I guess you've failed to do away with yourself yet again."
SERVANT: "No, judging that this year's sponsors are clearly listed, I can surmise that this KOF is different from the previous one, and appears to be a legitimate competition...."
KRAUSER: "In that case, I wish to hear more. Open it."
The servant proceeds to open the envelope.
SERVANT: "Permit me.... The format of the competition will consist of a series of matches just as the previous competition."
KRAUSER: "If that's so, then you most likely know who my teammates shall be."
SERVANT: "Sir, just what are you implying...? There are limits, even if you say it in jest."
KRAUSER: "Come, come. Who are they?"
SERVANT: "One Geese Howard and a Mr. Big."
KRAUSER: "Oh, ho, ho. A team of villains unbecoming of a public fighting competition, is it? ...I like it. I think I'll accept."
SERVANT: "It's not my place to interject, but such a competition is not worthy of your participation.... For you, Herr Krauser, I believe selecting a more suitable venue would be advisable...."
Krauser's hands stop dancing along the keyboard.
KRAUSER: "You really shouldn't be so stuffy. This'll be nothing more than a mere diversion. But one thing that piques my interest is that this competition is simply a fighting competition supported by corporations. If this competition were one of the usual pretexts for some underworld up-and-comer to fulfill his petty ambitions, I wouldn't care in the least. But this year's competition lacks that aura. A mere diversion...do you actually think someone like Geese would enter such an event? I don't think so. He is up to something. Most definitely.... And I must find what it is, don't you think? This competition just may be more interesting than I had thought.... This may not be such a diversion after all...."
SERVANT: "So you have thought this through. Well, then, Herr Krauser, I leave you to your bidding."
KRAUSER: "Yes, very well...."
SERVANT: "Shall I prepare your combat ensemble and the orchestra? Very good."
KRAUSER: "And one more thing...I'd appreciate you sweeping this entire hall. I think we have a nosey rodent or two in these environs."
The servant's face tense up as he immediately realizes the meaning to Krauser's words.
SERVANT: "Oh...?! My apologies, sir, right away."
The servant turns on his heels. His voice reverberates through the hall.
KRAUSER: "So it has come to this, has it? I do so look forward to this King of Fighters."

A grubby apartment. Light seeps in from a corner of the room to illuminate a lone figure.
BIG: "Krauser is on the move? Are you sure?"
MINION: "It's certain. One of our agents has just notified us.... Unfortunately it appears all of our listening devices have been discovered."
BIG: "That's not important. As long as we know Krauser's planning to enter the competition. Now it's all up to Geese. He should be losing his patience for the Bogard brothers about now. I think we can assume his participation is mostly in the bag. Things are getting interesting!"
MINION: "So you're actually thinking of teaming up with them and entering? As far as our organization goes, those two are thorns in our sides.... Although we can make use of them, we must not find ourselves being exploited. To avoid that, wouldn't it be advisable for you to stay out of the competition...?"
BIG: "We can't go on wallowing in this petty underworld forever. In order to extend our organization's influence, I can't sit this competition out. And if my absence is seen as a retreat, I would never live down the shame."
MINION: "I understand where you are coming from. But...."

Big's minion finds himself looking down the end of a nunchuck.
BIG: "Do you know what I hate most?"
MINION: "Being told what to do, sir....Correct?"
BIG: "You know me too well. Now get lost."
Mr. Big remains in the room. He chomps down deliberately on a cigar.
BIG: "Wolfgang Krauser. Geese Howard. I don't know what YOU two are plotting, but you'll have to get through me first to do it...."

A limousine in transit. The man in the front passenger seat looks back and begins to address the person in the rear seat.
RIPPER: "We just got word from one of our undercover agents in Southtown. It appears that Krauser and Big will enter the competition."
BILLY: "All the pieces just keep falling into place, don't they, Boss?"
GEESE: "That's because this year's KOF is just enough to whet Krauser and Big's appetitites. Krauser will find his entrŽe into legitimate society, and Big has the chance to establish a foundation for the enlargement of his organization....And I'm sure they're curious about what I'm up to. They know I wouldn't halfheartedly enter just any fighting competition. I'll let them discover what they may. I can't wait to see their faces when they realize they're but my pawns.... Let's make sure they serve us well."
BILLY: "And there's one other matter we should take care of along the way."
GEESE: "Take care of? Hmph...you mean the Bogard brothers? They're not worth the trouble. Those punks, however, have stood in my way far too often. I've been tolerant of them until now, but it just may be time to smash those bugs for good."
BILLY: "I see.... But I do regret that I won't be able to crush Iori Yagami myself. I hear he's entered this competition too."
GEESE: "Ha, ha, ha.... I understand your regret. But leave that to me. Leave everything to me.... I know it's out of character for me to be so giddy. And I just think things are just going to get more entertaining..."
RIPPER: "We are entering Southtown presently."
GEESE: "Head for the port. I have to say hello to that Terry Bogard-he doesn't know how deep he's in it this time."
BILLY: "I guess we'll just have to tell him then...this should be good!
GEESE: "Thing's are going to get pretty hectic from now on. The ultimate game has begun.... Hoo, hoo...hah, hah, hah."
King of Fighters '97
Geese Tower, the only building that commands a full view of Southtown. Geese regards the immutable view of the city, sunken deep down into his chair. A knock comes at the door.
GEESE: "Enter."
BILLY: "Excuse me, sir."
As if in synch with the pace of the approaching Billy, Geese slowly turns his back to his guest.
BILLY: "How may I serve you today?"
Geese produces an envelope that appears to contain an invitation from a desk drawer and passes it to Billy.
GEESE: "Read it."
Billy takes the envelope and opens it.
BILLY: "Hmm. So it's on again this year, is it? The King of Fighters."
GEESE: "Yup. In spite of last year's incident, it seems to have succeeded commercially. And this year you know the corporations will want a piece of this pie."
BILLY: "Do you plan to enter?"
GEESE: "I think I'll sit it out this time. I don't have time for such trivialities."
BILLY: "And so I..."
GEESE: "You're a quick study. Did you expect me to ask you to go bowling? But I jest. You're going to enter the event. Another entrant has caught my attention...."
BILLY: "And you want me to check him out. Sounds like a plan. So, who is it...? Must be Terry Bogard, right?"
GEESE: "Nope. Iori Yagami. Or, to be more precise, I should say the power that he possesses."
An odious memory comes to mind. Billy just barely manages to suppress his rage.
BILLY: "Iori...Yagami! ...But the power he commands is that of the Orochi, and a pale imitation of it at that.... Why do you want me to watch him now...? I thought your curiosity in the power of the Orochi had been sated, no?"
GEESE: "It may very well be that the power he commands is but an epigone of the Orochi; however, the rage he displayed in the last tournament is something I've never seen in the Orochi, something that may exceed its power. He's a true descendant of the Orochi.... Yagami may be something quite formidable."
BILLY: "Because of his mixed blood...? I see. Then if that's the case.... But as you know he and I aren't exactly drinking buddies. Did you think of that when you decided to enter me? I just may be liable to...annihilate him."
GEESE: "Suit yourself.... If he dies, he dies."
BILLY: "Very well, sir. That's that, then. By the way, who's on my team?"
Geese's grins menacingly and stares at Billy.
GEESE: "One of your teammates is Ryuji Yamazaki. The other, one Blue Mary."

BILLY: "Yamazaki and Blue Mary? There's a surprise...."
GEESE: "Yamazaki intrigues me, too.... But you won't need to bother with him. That's Blue Mary job, thanks to me arranging an investigation through one of my dummy corporations. Focusing on Yagami is all you need to think about."
BILLY: "Just what's so intriguing about this Yamazaki clown?"
GEESE: "Hmph, you'll know it when see it. If you see it.... I know where he's hanging out. Before you leave, check your hopper."
BILLY: "I understand. Well, then, I guess I'd better get crackin'...."
Billy exits the room. Geese gets up from his seat and stares out the window again.
GEESE: "This year's KOF looks like it'll be more interesting than I had thought."

In the gym. Men dressed in the gym's uniform surround a mysterious figure. A little ways away, Billy stands at a place that affords a full view of the gym.
BILLY: "It looks like it's begun."
Without uttering a word, the uniformed men lunge at the cornered man.
BILLY: "It's no good. With that timing, they'll be putty in his hands...."
The lunging men are abruptly blown every which way.
BILLY: "...The "Serpent Slash" move."
Next barrage of bursts reverberate through the gym. One man after another is blown back every which way.
The "wall" of men vanishes in an instant; a lone figure appears in the center of the gym.
BILLY: "Ryuji Yamazaki.... Just what does Geese find so interesting with him, anyway...?"
Billy's mind races as he scrutinizes the scene. A lone man, apparently grazed by the outburst, pounces at Yamazaki out of nowhere. Yamazaki appears unfazed.
MAN: "You nub! You're going to regret that...! Ah!"
Yamazaki grins. In the blink of an eye, a dagger pierces the attacker's belly. Billy looks on calmly.
BILLY: "This guy's no more than a vicious little punk."
MAN: "You...sneaky...bastard...."
Yamazaki's grin grows larger.
YAMAZAKI: "Sneaky? Hey, it's just a game, isn't it? Who made it serious...?"
He twists the dagger to open the wound further. The man screams out in agony. Yamazaki intones in a low voice:
YAMAZAKI: "...Bada bing, baby."
The man crumples to the floor. Yamazaki sheaths his dagger in disgust. Billy, meanwhile, stealthily enters the gym. Yamazaki takes notice of his presence.
YAMAZAKI: "...! Huh, one of Geese's lapdogs, is it? What do you want with me?"
BILLY: "That was quite a little hissy fit you threw there. Such high jinks in a place like this must mean you have more free time than you can manage."
YAMAZAKI: "I don't know what you mean. What? Do you care to share their fate?"
BILLY: "Hah! That's rich. Me lose to you, eh? Impossible. I'd even bet on it!"
YAMAZAKI: "Why you. Come to pick a fight with me, have you? Eh?!"
BILLY: "Just hear me out. I didn't come here to fight. I have a proposition for you."
YAMAZAKI: "A proposition? What do you got in mind?"
BILLY: "The King of Fighters will be beginning soon. We're going to enter it and win. That's my proposition."
YAMAZAKI: "The King of Fighters? Hmph, that fighting dilletante's ball? I'm not interested. Go get some other sucker...!?"
Suddenly something seizes Yamazaki's feet. He looks down to see the man he'd just carved a new navel for holding on to him. A grin even more vicious than before appears on Yamazaki's face.
YAMAZAKI: "Hoo, hoo, hoo. You're quite a little trooper!"
In an instant, a fountain of blood shoots up. Yamazaki lets out a scream that could be interpreted as madness or a cry for help.
BILLY: "What was that? That was something well beyond his previous homicidal rage...!"
Geese's words pop into Billy's head.
GEESE: "You'll know when you see it. If you see it...."
BILLY: "So that's it...that's what he meant."
YAMAZAKI: "How much...?"
Yamazaki's voice yanks him back to reality.
BILLY: "What's that?"
YAMAZAKI: "I'm asking you how much you're going to pay me. I've changed my mind.... I'm entering. The King of Fighters, that is!"
BILLY: "Double the prize money for the tournament."
YAMAZAKI: "Don't forget your promise...."
Yamazaki leaves the gym alone. Shortly after that, a woman's voice calls from behind.
MARY: "It looks like the plot thickens. Mind if I put my two cents in?"
BILLY: "You? What are you up to?"
MARY: "Nothing special.... I've put out my nets, and I thought this would be a good way to kill some time."
BILLY: "Would we happen to be caught in one of your little nets?"
MARY: "You got it."
BILLY: "...Hmm. Well, whatever. It looks like all our team is here. Do as you like."
Billy exits the gym. As he passes by Mary, she calls to him again.
MARY: "Thanks. I just may do that."
As Billy leaves the gym, a car draws up along side him. Without hesitation, he climbs into the car and shuts his eyes as if to ward off any followers.
BILLY: "All the players are on stage. I'm a little psyched about my little mission. I'm coming for you, Iori Yagami. And you're going down this time for sure!"
The gym. Mary looks over the pile of bodies.
MARY: "It looks like I've established contact with my target. But there's something fishy about this job. It looks like Yamazaki isn't the only one I'll have to investigate. I better find out just exactly whom I'm working for."
King of Fighters '03
"Hey, hey, hey! Out of my way, punk. That's my seat!"
"......"
"Didn't you hear me? Geese, let's teach this kung fu clown a lesson, eh?
"I don't give up my seat up to lapdogs."
"......I didn't quite get that. Want to say it again?"
"The place for lapdogs is in the dog house. Satisfied now?"
"Why you..."
"Hyah, ha, ha. That sounds like a plan. I'll watch. Let's get the show on the road!"

Those were the first words of the three the first day they met.
The English cudgel wielder, Billy Kane.
The broker of evil, Ryuji Yamazaki.
And the long-haired man dressed in the loose-fitting garments of Chinese boxing.
"If I'm not mistaken you call yourself Gato. If you want to see old age, you should learn to watch your mouth."
"......"
This man, a master of the rigid boxing arts beginning with those of Yakyoku-ken, is still young with a powerful physique and a certain something that makes the very air around him taught with tension. But no commendable person who fears him is in this spacious hall.
And there is only one man who could gather all of them here together.
Geese Howard.
The CEO of the Howard Connection and a master of the ancient martial arts - he holds mighty influence over the underground society and rules the underworld.
"I won't tell you to take each other's hands and dance the dance of affection..."
Geese, unpleasantly stubbing out his cigar while sitting deeply back, turns his leather chair around 180 degrees to turn his back to everyone.
"But how about pretending to show at least a little teamwork with each other in front of your new employer?"
From the top floor of this skyscraper that looks down on its surroundings, one can view his realm, Southtown.
"Client? Do you mean you've placed me in your hire?"
Gato bolts up.
"Rubbish. I have no interest in a fighting tournament. Good day."
Billy shrugs and whispers, "It's your funeral." Geese speaks with his back to everyone.
"This town...all sorts of people come to Southtown."
Gato ignores Geese's words and heads for the door.
"For example, a young Japanese girl searching for her long-lost brother. Eh?"
Gato stops in his tracks.
"So what. It's none of my business."
"That is true. But many other people do come to this city. And I've heard that Chinese boxers who may closely resemble you may be among them."
The Howard Connection monopolizes all of the information of Southtown. And Gato now is well aware of this.
"He's come here? For what purpose...it can't be to join the KOF?!"
"I have no idea. But it would be impossible for you alone to search for such a man lost among the millions here. It's a simple proposition, isn't it? You will win the tournament. And I will help you realize your goal. We'll be even Steven."
"...Hmph. Very well. You've got me interested."
"Hmph. What a pushover. Geese, if I have to enter KOF with the likes of this clown, I'd rather team up with a French poodle."
"Gyah, ha, ha, ha. You're nothing more than Geese's lapdog, so it'd be a nice match!"
"Yamazaki, why you..."
"Now, now...a dog barking at guests. Where's your discipline? What about it, Geese?"
"You filthy snake. How about me shutting you up? Huh?"
"Down, Billy."
Billy is too hot-blooded, and Yamazaki's twisted mental make-up enjoys seeing blood more than anything else. Were Geese not here, it would take no more than five seconds for a blood-soaked battle to the death to break out.
"...Anyway, I'll have you three take part in this year's KOF. You'll be amply remunerated and I will provide my syndicate with the necessary information for their investigation. This's just business. I think it's an offer you all can't refuse."
A crazed look appears on Yamazaki's face and he continues to smirk insanely.
Gato looks on unemotionally, his eyes fixed on Geeese.
Billy's discontent and discomfort is palpable, but his loyalty to Geese apparently exceeds it so he presently behaves himself, gripping his dear cudgel hard in hand.
"Well, then, if you have no objections, that's splendid."
Geese swivels his chair around again to face the newly formed members of his "team."
"I don't expect anything like teamwork with you jokers, but you will win this KOF. Any other result and I wouldn't expect to get anything if I were you."
"Any other results?"
There is no irony or jocularity mixed in with his tone of voice. Gato's confidence in his abilities is unshaken. His pride in his own strength speaks to this.
"Since I'll be in the tournament, there can only be one result. I will be victorious."
"Very good."
"Hey, hey, oh, tolerant Geese. Won't you grant my desires, too?"
"...It would be a real inconvenience if you rant about your payment in my office. Well, what is it?"
"Blood."
"...Blood, you say?"
"Recently my blood rages more than I can stand.... I just may "go overboard" a little in this tournament, so I'm hoping you'll, you know, make things right. I'm counting on you."
An icy glow flickers in Geese's eyes. But that, too, is just for a second.
"Do as you like. As long as it can be disposed of as 'an accident.'"
"Hyah, ha, ha, ha! Thank you! Now I'm really psyched!"

"Are we done with our little chat? Well then I recommend you rest up as much as you can until the tournament begins."

Once Gato and Yamazaki leave the room, only Billy and Geese remain.
"Geese, about this tournament..."
"Yeah, Billy, I've been meaning to talk to you mano-e-mano about it."
"Yes."
"Of course I want you to keep an eye on Yamazaki, but don't let Gato out of your sight. Especially if someone gets in touch with him, I want you to report directly to me."
"Your wish is my command. By the way, Geese, who, in blazes, is the sponsor of this year's KOF anyway?"
"......"
Without answering, Geese once again turns his leather chair around with his back to Billy.
After a prolonged silence, Billy bids his leave and exits.

The next time the three team members will meet will be the opening day of KOF.
King of Fighters III
Billy Kane
With intense loyalty towards Geese Howard, Billy is the right-hand man of Howard Connection. He is able to repel his enemies with his long range stick fighting. Passionate in what he does, he's earned himself the nickname "Walking Weapon".

Fun Facts
Reduced Roster
According to some leftover data on the home version discs, The King of Fighters XII originally would have had Mai, Yuri, King, Vice, Takuma, Hwa Jai, "Billy", a "Dark" Ash, and a KoF '98 version of Iori, as well as a boss of unknown identity. KoF XII was well-known to have been rushed through development, so these characters all obviously got the axe due to budget and time constraints. Further supporting this is the fact that all of these characters made it info KoF XIII eventually (counting the home version).
Don't Break My Ribs, Whoa Whoa Tonight
Referencing the way Iori broke the team up at the end of KOF'95 (by beating Eiji and Billy within an inch of their lives), Billy and Iori have special intros together in '97, '98, and '02.

In '97, Billy simply points his pole at Iori and says "I WISH I COULD TEAR HIM APART!" (presumably he can't because of Geese's orders).

Billy still wishes he could tear him apart in '98, but now Eiji appears behind him and they both shake their fists. Eiji disappears leaving Billy confused.

In '02 Billy drops the line but Eiji still pops in to leer menacingly. By 2003, both of them have apparently gotten over it.
Billy Estevez (Emilio Kane)
According to a sidebar in an issue of Neo Geo Freak, Billy Kane was originally modelled on Emilio Estevez.

At least, I am pretty sure that's what it's saying.
