Storyline
Guilty Gear
A long range attacker who can take opponents down at a distance.
A young man from the 20th century with the ability to manipulate time.

A typical optimist who doesn't take things too seriously and just goes with the flow.
He is compassionate to a fault and could never ignore somebody in trouble.
He despises the very idea of "death" and would never resort to taking a life, no matter the situation.
Guilty Gear
Axl was born in 20th century England, in one of the worst parts of London's East End. He grew up desensitized to violence, seeing it every day as warring gang factions fought for control of the town. However, he abhorred it deeply and was determined to end the assault on his neighborhood peacefully.

Ever since childhood Axl had unusual martial arts prowess, and with his favorite weapon, the dual kusari-gama, even bullets weren't a threat to him. Within half a year, he had successfully cleaned up his neighborhood without a single casualty - friend or foe. However, at the very moment he was sure the peace would last, he was caught in a "time slip" - a random disturbance in the space-time continuum - and hurtled 200 years into the future.
Two years have passed since Axl's arrival in this new world... and he still searches for a way back home. Yet just as he begins to give up hope, he hears a rumor of a fighting tournament in which the champion gets whatever they can wish for...
Guilty Gear X
Axl actually hails from the 20th century. Born in the slums, he placed himself in the middle of gang warfare to bring peace to the area, and with his extraordinary physical prowess he was able to achieve his goal-without any casualties-in six months time. Some time later, due to a cruel twist of fate, he was forced to travel 150 years into the future. Hoping to gain passage back to his own time, he entered the Tournament. Instead, he was sent to another time period for a year's time. During that period, he was bounced around in the time-space continuum for an equivalent of three years. Throughout his journey, he learned that in each time period, there were always rumors of another time traveler like him. Axl believed that by pursuing the traveller known as "The Man," he could come upon a way to go back to his own time once and for all. Sensing the presence of "The Man" behind the incident with the Gear, he decides to check it out for himself.
Guilty Gear XX
P.W.A.B. Report #5470:
Subject claims to have jumped into this era from the 20th century. Although this claim is unsubstantiated, he is confirmed to carry certain vital information on past events. His skill with fire helped him earn a spot in the second Sacred Knights tournament. Considering his high physical strength and the danger his unfettered knowledge presents, he should be handled with extreme caution.

Fun Facts
The Undying Disease
One of the weirder loose ends in Guilty Gear's plot is Raven, servant of That Man and apparent "parallel existence" of Axl Low. He appears in some story scenes in Guilty Gear XX and in the novel "Lightning the Argent."
Raven returns as a boss in Guilty Gear 2, unfortunately doing little to shed light on Daisuke Ishiwatari's grand scheme, but at least becoming playable as a DLC character.
Night Train (in my backgrounds)
Axl is lacking any clever heavy metal references in his move names, but he is visually based on/more or less named after Guns N' Roses' lead singer Axl Rose.
